CMSI began as Gray & Associates in 1986 following on mentoring program work (1978-85) at the University of British Columbia. Three years later (1989) it was incorporated as The Mentoring Institute Inc. [TMI], then in September 2000 made a name change to CMSI • Corporate Mentoring Solutions Inc.
Beginning with their research in 1978 on mentoring relationships and program design, the two partners by 1999 had developed numerous paper-based materials exclusive to the mentoring relationship. This ongoing development was prompted by feedback to indicate that-
- their training activities, mentoring models and materials jump-start mentoring relationships in formal programs by 2 to 6 months compared to previous training experiences, and
- this approach leads to greater goal attainment.
These two points are especially noteworthy since over 75% of these participants were previously trained by competitors. In 1998, we began to convert our field-tested paper-based products into a multi-functional system, accessible via the Internet. Our first Mentoring Management System® was OMS Online Mentoring Solution System. Later generations of the system, with valuable input from clients, has been called Colaboro®. We selected this name for our software to suggest the concept of collaboration.
Our work has won awards such as: “Mentors of Mentors” Delegates Award at the First International Conference on Mentoring; Hewlett Packard’s “Best Corporate Program”; Varian Associates (Radiation Division) “Best Program Award”; Marion College “Professional Development Award for Mentoring”.
CMSI is now licensing version 4 of Colaboro. Details of Colaboro 4 can be found on other pages of website.
